The author was with the defense services and was posted in a remote village in Tamil Nadu where there were nothing other than video cassette players to pass time. So he and his room mate would walk out to explore the landscape and the people around. Every week the two of them find a different thing to do after working hours gets over to get rid of their boredom.

Some days they would go and talk to the fishing folks who they found did not have enough to eat themselves. But the hospitality of these fishing folks were so great, that they would call the two of them into their tattered thatched roof one room huts for eating food. Everything is written as if it was happening when the reader is reading this true life story.

One day the two of them happen to walk into the railway station just a few hundred yards from the house they were staying and they decided to do something naughty. They did not take ticket for the thrill of it and on top of it they both went and boarded the engine of the train where the train ticket examiner will never come.

They chatted with the steam engine locomotive train driver for the next half an hour ride to the next railway station around 18 kilometers away, got down and walked back all the way home. The next day they did the same. The train driver was now a friend and used to look forward to seeing them daily.

The actual story starts when one day the two of them placed an unusual request which the train diver did not agree to. The two of them told the train driver that the two of them are pilots and want to drive the train. The entire story revolves around the funny, yet so convincing conversation between the two of them and the train driver half an hour every day for over ten days.

This true life story gives an insight into the psychology of a steam engine train driver, his assistant in the train and the two pilots. The author and his room mate were actually a bit adamant and would not let go without a fight and the steam engine passenger train driver who was left with one month to go for retirement and did not want to lose the retirement benefits for a foolishness of getting caught for letting the two pilots to drive his steam engine train.

The author has gone a little emotional during his narration of this true life story. But overall this true life story gets the reader a clear and concise idea of the behaviors of aircraft pilot and train driver.
